Mesonychia (

medium-sized claws ) - an extinct mid-sized government and large carnivorous mammals, whose close relatives are artiodactyls and cetaceans. Some scientists are grouped with the latter Mesonychia Cete into one group. These animals appeared in the early Paleocene. Group has shrunk in the Eocene and completely extinct when the last type, Mongolestes, disappeared in the early Oligocene. Group discussed here probably originated in Asia, where the most primitive representative Yangtanglestes, appeared in the early Paleocene.
